Motherhood in Northern Virginia Isn’t Supposed to Feel This Hard

You love your baby - but you haven’t felt like yourself in weeks. Many new and expecting moms quietly struggle with feelings of overwhelm, anxious and scary thoughts, anger, or exhaustion that doesn’t go away with sleep. This is very common and very treatable.

Postpartum Depression and Anxiety can happen to anyone. Even if you prepared, planned and did “everything right”. Even to moms who are prepared, high-achieving and deeply loving. In Northern Virginia fast-paced, high-pressure culture, the gap between “what I expected” and “what I’m experiencing” can feel particularly wide.

If you find yourself:

  • Crying more often and unsure why

  • Feeling anxious, numb, or stuck in worst-case scenarios

  • Wondering why bonding with your baby isn’t happening the way you expected

  • Struggling to feel like yourself again

  • Exhausted and yet can’t sleep

  • Scared to admit how bad things really feel

If any of this sounds familiar, it is not your fault. These are signs of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs).

With therapy, you can feel better.

Therapy that understands your Northern Virginia Life

Northern Virginia is a unique place to become a mother. The NoVa/DC metro attracts high-achieving-driven women —who face unique pressures that can make postpartum especially challenging.

Many VA moms are federal employees or private-sector professionals navigating the pressure of returning to work while still in the thick of postpartum recovery. We’ll work through the guilt, the grief and the logistics.

Short Maternity leave & Career Pressure

Deployment stress, relocation anxiety, and the isolation of being far from family are realities that I understand and work with.

Military & Federal Families

I offer fully bilingual therapy to new and expecting moms all across Virginia, from Herdon, Centreville to Alexandria. As a Latina myself, I understand teh pressures of navigating motherhood as an immigrant in the U.S.

ABOUT GERALDINE

A Virginia therapist who specializes in this — not just covers it.

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Virginia with over 15+ years of experience in mental health. I’m also a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Specialist (PMH-C). One of a relatively small number of therapists with this advanced certification focused specifically on pregnancy and postpartum.

I’m also bilingual in English and Spanish, and I understand the unique experience of Latina moms navigating motherhood, immigration, and identity in the DC suburbs.
